DulcoEase Stool Softener (30 Gel Capsules): provides relief when bowel movement is painful or difficult, if you are constipated or suffer from piles or anal fissure. DulcoEase softens hard, dry stools by increasing their absorption of natural fluids. Also may be used before an abdominal x-ray.
What is Dulcoease and how will it help me?
Sometimes, it may hurt when you go to the loo. But you're not alone. Over 6 million people in the UK at any time find it painful or difficult to pass stools. The pain can be even worse if you have haemorrhoids or anal fissure. And to make it worse, it's embarrassing to talk about it, even to friends.
Thankfully, when you have hard, dry stools there's new Dulcoease. It's designed to make going to the loo more comfortable again. It works by gently softening hard, dry stools - making it easier to go. People often say that they can go to the loo, it just hurts when they do. This is where Dulcoease can help.
How it works:
Dulcoease helps your stool absorb some of the body's natural fluids. It does this by decreasing the surface tension of the stool, and takes one or two days to start working. Dulcoease shows no suggestion of being habit forming
Is Dulcoease the correct product for me?
Dulcoease may be a good choice for you if you are straining when going to the loo, and/or there is a change in consistency of your stool (you may notice they are harder and/or drier than normal).
It can also be used if you’re suffering from haemorrhoids, or from anal fissures which may be due to straining when going to the loo. It can help to ease the pain and discomfort when you go to the loo, and can be used alongside pain-relieving haemorrhoid treatment and most other laxatives.
Dulcoease can be used in children over 12 years of age.
How often can one use laxatives for?
Standard medical advice is that laxatives that are available without prescription (such as the Dulcolax range) can be used from time to time for short term relief of occasional constipation. However you should see your doctor if you are often constipated - despite following lifestyle advice to prevent it or if you have been constipated for more than two weeks.
How often should someone have a bowel movement? What is normal?
Everyone is different, but the normal range in the Western world is considered to be between three bowels movements a day, to three times a week.
Is there any reason why women should suffer more often than men?
Yes, women have a slightly slower digestion rate than men. For instance it will normally take 32 hours for food to pass through the female digestive system and be expelled as faeces compared to 27 hours in men. The digestive process slows down even more during pregnancy due to the effects of the hormone progesterone which acts a muscle relaxant, slowing down bowel movements.
Directions for use:
Adults should take 1 capsule orally, up to 6 times per day. Initially, try 3 capsules per day, then adjust according to need.
Reduce the dose when you feel more comfortable, usually within 1—2 days.
Swallow whole with water.
Children under 12 years: Not recommended.
For use prior to abdominal X-ray: 4 capsules, as instructed by hospital.
