Systane Lubricating Eye Drops (10ml Dropper Bottle): Like your skin, your eyes need extra moisture from time to time. It's only natural as you get older, and can also result from being outside in the wind and sun, being inside with air conditioning—any situation that exposes your eyes to dryness or dust.
You may notice some symptoms, such as burning, itching, dryness or even excessive tearing. Systane Lubricating Eye Drops can help to keep eyes looking and feeling great, providing immediate comfort and lasting relief.
What is dry eye?
Dry eye is a term used to describe a group of different diseases and conditions that result from inadequate wetting and lubrication of the eye.
Although millions of people experience it, dry eye is not always easy to diagnose; it can easily be mistaken for other conditions such as infections or allergies.
Believe it or not, excessive tearing caused by crying, cold weather, etc., can actually cause dry eye symptoms.
There are many different abnormalities that can cause dry eye, such as decreased tear production, excessive evaporation, blinking problems, etc. Many medications, such as antihistamines, can also contribute to dry eye.
Do you suffer from dry eyes?
Take this simple DRY EYE QUIZ to find out.
Do your eyes ever experience any of the following symptoms?
If you answered YES to one or more of the symptoms above, you may have dry eye. It is important that you talk to your doctor about options for the treatment of dry eye.
What can you do about dry eye?
There is no known "cure" for dry eye. However, in most cases, dry eye can be treated with an artificial tear solution or, in more severe cases, by blocking the puncta. Whatever the treatment mode chosen, effective treatment of dry eye must either replace or enhance natural tears.
To replace natural tears, an artificial tear solution can be effective. Artificial tears are available with and without preservatives. Preservative-free artificial tears are recommended for people who can't tolerate preservatives or who must use these solutions many times per day.
If artificial tears are needed on more than an occasional basis, the type of preservative used is an important consideration. Many artificial tear solutions contain benzalkonium chloride (BAC), a preservative that with frequent use can actually damage the epithelium and lead to further problems.
Often, overnight protection is needed. In these cases a more viscous preparation should be used, one that is designed to provide long-lasting protection and lubrication.
